Chris Lefteri is the founding principal of Chris Lefteri Design studio and an internationally recognized leading authority on materials and their application in design. His achievements in this area have created an unparalled bridge between the materials and the design industry.
Lefteri has published eight books on design and material innovation, including the highly acclaimed “Materials for Inspirational Design” series (RotoVision, 2001–7) and Making It: Manufacturing Techniques for Product Design (Laurence King, 2007), which have been translated into five languages. Over the last 10 years Lefteri’s books have been instrumental in changing the way designers view and use materials. He is editor and creative director of Ingredients magazine, which has a global subscription base of over 5,000 designers.
Chris Lefteri Design studio has worked with several Fortune 100 companies and major design studios across Europe, the United States, and Asia, helping them formulate strategies for effective materials integration in the design process. Lefteri has conducted workshops and lectures for numerous companies: Nike, Philips Design, LG Electronics, Samsung, New Balance, Dyson, Hyundai, and Rocca Sanitario. The studio also works with major material suppliers such as Corning Glass, Eastman Chemicals, and Exxon Mobil, helping them market their products to the design industry.
Lefteri lectures at University of the Arts London Central Saint Martins and has delivered papers on materials and design across Europe, North America, and Asia. He was the visionary-in-residence at Art Center College of Design in California in 2008 and has been a guest lecturer at Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Design Academy Eindhoven, the College for Creative Studies, The Savannah College of Art and Design, and LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts in Singapore.
Lefteri is currently the Smart Materials Theme Champion for the Creative Industries Knowledge Transfer Network in the United Kingdom.
