Special Events

In addition to panel presentations and discussions, special events that emphasized the multisensory, experiential principles inherent in craft theory and practice were organized as part of Craft Forward.

Pre-Symposium Events — Friday, April 1

Manufractured Reception 3–4 p.m.
Craft Forward attendees were invited to the Manufractured exhibition closing reception at the Tecoah Bruce Gallery in the Oliver Art Center located on the Oakland campus of California College of the Arts.
Studios Tour 4–5 p.m.
Craft Forward attendees were invited to tour CCA’s historic craft studios as several programs on the Oakland campus open their doors to symposium participants.

Symposium Events — Saturday, April 2

Visiting Artist 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
Visiting artist Kate Fletcher exhibited her Local Wisdom project at the symposium venue, where the public was invited to take their worn and weathered garments to participate throughout the day.
Craft Forward Soiree 7–10 p.m.
Craft Forward Soiree festivities included an exhibition of student and faculty work, a series of short lectures by graduate students, interactive craft artists, a dance performance, and of course, food, music, and dancing!
